BYD's world-first megawatt charging stations: 2 km per second of charging and 1,000 V

BYD is introducing revolutionary megawatt charging stations that can add 2 km of range per second. These stations are ideal for electric passenger cars with a 1,000-volt high-voltage system. The company promises to install more than 4,000 such stations across China, significantly speeding up charging and improving the experience for electric vehicle users.

BYD’s Megawatt Charging Stations: A Revolution in Fast Charging

BYD has released its unique Megawatt Flash Charger stations, which operate at 1,000 V and a current of 1,000 A. These are the world’s first chargers with a peak charging current of 1 MW (1,000 kW). According to the manufacturer, these stations can significantly speed up the charging process: they are capable of restoring 2 km of range in 1 second.

During real-world testing, the BYD charging station reached 1 MW of power in just 10 seconds while charging the Han L EV and Tang L EV models. The charging time from 7% to 50% was just 4.5 minutes, making the process of replenishing range incredibly fast.
