For the first time, an electric-car maker tops the Chinese market

An electric-car maker has topped the Chinese market for the first time

In the first four weeks of November, the leader of the Chinese market became BYD, which has completely stopped producing cars with «pure» internal combustion engines — the first time this has happened in history. China's car market is considered the largest in the world, and in November BYD managed to sell 152.8 thousand cars there.

Growth in average daily sales of 83 % compared with November of last year allowed BYD to overtake the largest corporations, including Volkswagen and Toyota, which in turn showed a certain decline: VW sold 143.6 thousand cars in China in November, «Toyota» — only 115.2 thousand.

The agency's experts believe that the big global automakers are gradually losing the Chinese market, giving way to the pressure of young and active local brands. Local companies can offer more varied model lineups at affordable prices, as well as attract buyers with a wide range of online multimedia services. As a result, for example, Mercedes-Benz was forced some time ago to announce serious discounts on its luxury electric cars, reaching up to $30,000.

However, Tesla's results contradict this trend, as its sales in November almost doubled compared with last year. That said, Tesla prefers to operate in China with the most persuasive marketing tool, steadily cutting the prices of its electric cars.
